This artist painter has been leading a prolific career for 45 years, punctuated with numerous distinctions and honorary mentions. Numerous collectors, Europeans as well as Quebeckers, have one of his paintings in their possession. Denis LaPorte distinguishes himself by a painter where the landscapes, sometimes ochre, sometimes more blazing, allowing light to appear, an unexplainable limpidity and calm. His journey brings him to expose in several countries in Europe, including France, Spain and Belgium. Member of l’Académie internationale des beaux-arts du Québec, he is awarded a distinction for his works.

Born in Joliette, Québec, Denis Laporte, self-taught artist, begins his career in 1963. His first primitive art paintings in naive art are of countryside scenes and Québec landscapes. From then on, he receives many prizes during expositions.
At the end of the 60’s, his presence at the prestigious Galerie d’Art Zanettin of Québec marks an important beginning in the artist’s career that he improves more and more. His works attract the attention of numerous experts and allow him to be made known on the international level. Following the example of the senior painters, the artist used his hands to work with directly on the canvas. The result is a unique and timeless work of art.
The expositions succeed one another in the 80’s, among which took place at the Galerie Gaby Lamothe in the Mauricie Region of Québec. The works then presented attract an unprecedented crowd. The journalist, Royal St-Arnaud of the Nouvelliste of Trois-Rivières testifies of the interest of the public: «To be in front of a painting of LaPorte, is as if time and space did not exist.» The ethereal landscapes, the rich and transparent colours, as well as the wise characters evolve in these works, fascinate the eye and express an emotional feeling.
With the passing of years, the creative spirit of the artist brings him to explore other styles and to orientate his talent towards more profoundness, authenticity and light. Submitted to the interior rhythm of his meditations, LaPorte executes his outstanding works with symbolism as well as with clarity that they bring out.
A director of a Montreal gallery saw in the first works of LaPorte this thoughtful movement and this science of chiaroscuro that made of Rembrandt one of the greatest masters of art. Certain experts compare him to William Turner, British painter of the last century, who knew how to dissolve the forms in the quiver of the atmosphere and the light.
Denis LaPorte is known all over Québec and his works of art have crossed borders. From 1994 to 2007, his paintings are displayed at the Art Gallery «Les Peintres québecois» in the City of Québec. In 2003, he opens his art gallery in the heart of the Mauricie Region, in Québec, where he exposes permanently.
The art history of Denis LaPorte is unique because it retraces the journey of a human being inspired and inhabited by an ideal of beauty that he tries to transmit in his works of art.
